Frequently asked questions
Why does your application have so many question?
We believe transparency is the best way to begin. The questions we ask help us determine whether we will be a good fit for one another. They also help ensure that our policies, expectations, and processes are clearly understood so there are no surprises along the way.
Our goal is not simply to sell puppies, but to build lasting relationships based on trust, honesty, transparency, and open communication.
Do you provide a health guarantee?
Yes. We provide both a short-term health guarantee and a one-year genetic health guarantee. Full details are provided in our purchase agreement.
Can I visit the puppies before choosing one?
For the health and safety of our puppies, we do not allow visitors before puppies are 8 weeks old and have completed their veterinary examination. We provide regular photos, videos, and updates so families can follow along as their puppy grows and develops.
Families with paid deposits are welcome to schedule a meet-and-greet after the puppies turn 8 weeks old if they are still deciding which puppy is the best fit. However, because many puppies are reserved before their go-home date, we cannot guarantee availability after 8 weeks of age.
When can my puppy go home?
Puppies typically go home at 8 weeks of age after completing their veterinary examination, receiving age-appropriate vaccinations, being microchipped, and obtaining a Florida Health Certificate. Occasionally, go-home dates may vary slightly based on our veterinarian's schedule.
How do I reserve a puppy?
A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a puppy. Puppies are not held without a deposit. Deposit amount is listed on the individual Good Dog Profiles.
Can my deposit be transferred?
Deposits may be transferred one time to the next available litter of the same gender if discussed and approved in advance. Color, markings, and timing cannot be guaranteed when transferring a deposit.
What comes with my puppy?
Each puppy goes home with:
Florida Health Certificate, Age-appropriate vaccinations, Microchip, CKC registration application (once we receive proof of spay or neuter), Health guarantee, Starter food, & Lifetime breeder support.
Are your puppies registered?
Yes. Most puppies are placed with CKC Registration Applications unless otherwise stated.
Other registries available (ABCA & AKC), but only under very limited circumstances.
Have the parents been health tested?
Yes. Our breeding dogs are health tested. Health testing information is available on the parents' profiles on Good Dog when those parents actively have puppies available for purchase.
What food do you feed?
Our puppies are fed Purina Pro Plan Puppy Lamb & Rice. We recommend continuing the same food initially to help minimize digestive upset during the transition to their new home.
How much should I feed my puppy?
At approximately 8 weeks of age, Corgi puppies are typically eating around 1 cup of food per day, while Border Collie puppies are typically eating around 2 cups per day. This amount can be divided into multiple meals throughout the day.
When should I schedule my puppy's first veterinary appointment?
We recommend scheduling a wellness exam with your veterinarian within two business days of bringing your puppy home. Please bring your puppy's health certificate and vaccination records to the appointment.
When should I take my new puppy or dog to the vet?
Contact your veterinarian as soon as possible to schedule your puppy’s first appointment. Provide them with your puppy’s health certificate and vaccine dates so they can advise you on the next steps — every clinic’s policy is slightly different.
Can I bring my other pets to pickup?
No. For the safety of all animals involved, we ask that no other pets attend pickup appointments.
Where do I pick up my puppy?
Puppies are picked up at the Okeechobee Post Office located at 1000 NE Park St., Okeechobee, FL 34972. Each litter is assigned a specific pickup date and time.
Can I bring my other pets to meet my puppy?
Absolutely not. For the safety of all animals, we do not allow other pets at pickup or visits.
Can you meet at an airport?
Yes. We may be able to meet families at Orlando International Airport (MCO) or Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) on select weekdays for a $100 travel fee. Availability varies and arrangements must be made in advance.
Can I fly in to pick up my puppy?
Absolutely. Many of our puppies travel home with families from across the country. We are happy to coordinate pickup arrangements for families traveling by air.
Do you sell breeding rights?
Occasionally, breeding rights may be available to approved homes. Please contact us to discuss your goals and experience.
Will you hold my puppy after the go-home date?
Puppies must be picked up within seven (7) days of being cleared by our veterinarian unless prior arrangements have been approved. Additional boarding may be available on a case-by-case basis for up to thirty (30) days.
Any puppy being held beyond the initial seven-day pickup period must be paid in full. If the puppy is not picked up by the agreed-upon date and no alternative arrangements have been approved, Buyer agrees to forfeit all rights to the puppy and any monies previously paid.
Have the puppies started training?
Our puppies are introduced to age-appropriate enrichment, handling, grooming, socialization, and household experiences before going home. Puppies that remain with us beyond 8 weeks may also begin crate training.
Why don't you provide a phone number?
To keep communication organized and documented, all communication is handled through Good Dog messaging. This allows both parties to easily reference previous conversations, agreements, and important information regarding the puppy.
How do I choose my puppy?
We provide photos, videos, temperament observations, and ongoing updates to help families make an informed decision. While color and markings may initially catch your eye, we encourage families to consider temperament, energy level, and overall compatibility when selecting a puppy. We are more than happy to guide you, but we believe the decisions is ultimately yours.
Can you guarantee temperament, size, color, or health quality?
No. While we can provide estimates based on the parents, pedigree, and our experience, no breeder can guarantee an individual puppy's adult size, temperament, color development, health, or performance potential.
What if I can no longer keep my puppy?
If you are ever unable to keep your dog, please contact us. We are committed to every puppy we produce and appreciate the opportunity to help find an appropriate solution.
Do you ship puppies?
No. We do not ship puppies as cargo. Families must pick up their puppy in person or arrange transportation through a third party.
The method of transportation you choose is entirely up to you; however, any variation to the scheduled pickup date, time, or location must be approved in advance.
For families utilizing ground transportation, Sweet Briar Pet Transport has consistently provided reliable service for many of our puppy families. They can be contacted by text at (317) 513-4481 for a transportation quote.
When requesting a quote, please let them know the puppy will be located in Okeechobee, Florida 34973, will be at least 8 weeks of age, and will have a Florida Health Certificate at the time of transport.
Please note that transportation arrangements are solely between the buyer and the transporter.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept payment through Good Dog (preferred), Klarna, Zelle, and Cash. For families wishing to pay in cash, the deposit must be submitted through Zelle, with the remaining balance due in cash at pickup.
A non-refundable deposit is required to reserve a puppy. The remaining balance is due at pickup.
Any puppy being held beyond the initial seven-day pickup period must be paid in full. Failure to make payment or take possession of the puppy by the agreed-upon date may result in forfeiture of the reservation, the puppy, and any monies previously paid.
